AedG, a new weapon inAcinetobacter’s fight against antimicrobials

ABSTRACT

A novel multidrug efflux pump, AdeG from the Drug:H+antiporter 2 family was discovered inAcinetobacterplasmids. Here, we profiled the antimicrobial resistance potential and examined the distribution of this gene. Close and distant homologs of the efflux pump were found in severalAcinetobacterspecies and other Gram-negative species, respectively. The pump conferred resistance to at least eight diverse antimicrobials. These results show that the novel pump is a new determinant in theAcinetobacterresistance arsenal.
